BLUENOSE Sunday July 17, 2016..Port Of Iona CELEBRATING A LOCAL CONNECTION .In 1937, a 17 year old Elvin Gaudley spent time on the Bluenose. This was part of a 20 year career on the seas including serving time with the Merchant Marine during the Second World War. In 1956, Elvin became an engineer on the Iona ferry, crossing the Barra Strait. This was the start of another 20 years on the slightly more forgiving waters of the Bras d'Or Lakes, our inland sea. From 1957 to 2015 the Gaudley Family overlooked the Barra Strait from their home in Iona. The archive picture below was taken fairly close to where the house is situated. At 4 PM on Sunday there will be a picture taking session and dedication to Glenna Gaudley and her family in honour of Elvin's career on the seas and community service. Please join us in this special celebration. http://www.centralcapebreton.com/photoalbum/xold%20(2).JPG
