CBR Chamber Goes Virtual for Women's Leadership Conference

On February 26, 2021, the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a women’s leadership and empowerment conference, ADVANTAGE 2021, presented by Scotiabank. After facing scheduling complications in 2020 due to COVID-19, the Chamber is thrilled to go virtual to host this day of inspiration and empowerment for women, by women working in or for business on Cape Breton Island.

ADVANTAGE 2021 is an opportunity to bring together a community of women to connect, learn, and grow together through covering topics and encouraging discussion around the important shift that is happening with women in the world of business and entrepreneurship.

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the conference will be hosted on a virtual platform; however, the Chamber has sought out a platform that goes beyond a typical video-conferencing software and creates a state-of-the-art , conference-like experience virtually. This includes being seated at a virtual table and having the opportunity to network as you would in real-time.

“The Chamber's mission is to empower businesses to thrive in the CBRM. It is important to create a space that provides the opportunity for learning, empowerment, and connection for women on Cape Breton Island,” says Kathleen Yurchesyn, CEO of the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce.

“This event showcases that being a woman is an advantage and, although there is still work to be done, there has never been a better time to be a woman in history than now. Throughout the day, our speakers will be covering important topics and encouraging discussion that empower, support, and encourage our business community of women to understand their advantage and use that knowledge as power.”

The conference will feature keynote speaker Barb Stegemann, the best-selling author of The 7 Virtues of a Philosopher Queen, a woman’s guide to living and leading in an illogical world, whose pitch led her to be the first woman from Atlantic Canada to land a venture-capital deal on the CBC TV show Dragons’ Den. In addition to Stegemann, there will be several local, women speakers from various professions and sectors.

Registration for ADVANTAGE 2021 is now open. To register, visit www.advantagecb.ca or contact the Chamber office at 902-564-6453.
