CBR Police charge Glace Bay man for two robberies

A 26-year-old man from Glace Bay faces charges for robberies at Needs Convenience stores in Glace Bay and Sydney.

During the overnight hours of January 23rd, Cape Breton Regional Police responded to the stores on Reserve Street in Glace Bay and George Street in Sydney, where store clerks reported that a man threatened use of a weapon and demanded money, then ran. Initial information suggested to officers that the two incidents may be connected to the same suspect. Through further investigation – including witness statements, video surveillance and evidence collected by Forensic Identification officers – police were able to identify a suspect whom they arrested on January 28th.

George Thomas Morrison was remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre charged with Robbery (x2) and Wearing a Disguise with Intent (x2).

Cape Breton Regional Police continue to investigate an additional two robberies reported earlier in the evening on January 23rd, at Terrace Street Convenience and the Sydney River Subway restaurant. In both instances, a man showed store clerks a knife and demanded money, then ran. The suspect description from both locations included similarities; photos of the potential suspect – who was wearing jeans and a blue and white jacket – and vehicle – a silver Chevrolet Impala – are attached, and police ask anyone with information that can help identify or locate the man or vehicle, to please contact us at 902-563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
