CN Bids To Buy Halifax Container Terminal

The Canadian National Railway Co wants to create the 'Prince Rupert of the East' with its bid to acquire the 30-hectare Halterm site, the Halifax container terminal. The terminal was last acquired in 2007 for $173 Million.

"Ruest said there are two other ports the railway is looking at as well, one in Nova Scotia and one on the St. Lawrence River. Although he was not specific about which facilities, the most likely candidates are Melford in Nova Scotia, which would be a greenfield development, and Quebec City."

What do our two port marketers have to say about this? Its time for an emergency council meeting IMO. Its time to audit all this port development and see if our tax dollars were spent properly. Federal election coming up and I know that I will not be voting for any one who dosnt demand an AUDIT of our tax dollars ASAP. Meanwhile the CBRM developing department needs to immediately start planning around the possibility of the Cape Breton section of right of way being rail banked and turned over to the Trans Canada Trail. The possibility of being used for public transit also needs to be considered. This infrastructure is too important to be put on hold any longer. If Cape Breton is lucky enough to have CN take over the Truro to Port Hawkesbury section consider it a major win for the island and get on to newer ideas to develop this island.

Raleigh has invested heavily in greenways (nearly $2.2 million is set aside for fiscal year 2019, up from $1.8 million in 2016) because that investment pays off. “There are very few other places in the public realm,” Thomas said, “where you can spend a dollar and affect everything from transportation, to environmental quality, equity, education, ability to attract businesses, tourism and property values.”

If any of these properties border railway right of way the value of that property may have just increased significantly. http://cbrm.ns.ca/images/stories/TAX%20SALES/DEC_7-2018_TENDER_2nd_AD.pdf
