Equalization Freeze, Provincial loans offered to municipalities

The NSEF has prepared a spreadsheet presentation identifying the shortfalls in equalization payments to the CBRM that has steadily declined since 1999/2000, and ultimately froze at $15M since 2014/2015.

Dr. Paul Patterson Ph.D. discusses with Russ Green (Cape Breton Situation Podcast) the various pages of this presentation and the meaning behind each. This presentation is an in-depth study about the past and current funding to Towns and Municipalities by the Nova Scotia provincial government and the lack of Equalization that is being distributed within the province.

Listen to the below podcast, the first 5 minutes will provide clarity on the data compiled by the NSEF that is provided by the Province until they chose to no longer provide the information since 2015.

See the data discussed by Dr. Paul Patterson shown within the spreadsheets attached.

Additionally, the NS Provincial Government has announced that equalization funding will remain frozen, yet offers NS Municipalities loan opportunities totalling $340M.
