FREE Nutrition And Culinary Workshops For Seniors

New Dawn Homecare is excited to partner with Sobeys Prince Street in April and May to offer FREE community cooking and healthy living classes for seniors. 


These four classes will be designed and delivered by Lorraine Teasdale (Sobeys Prince Street Dietician) and Chef Franklin (Sobeys Prince Street Chef) and will cover a range of wellness topics and new recipes for you to try! 

The classes will take place in the Community Room at the Sobeys Prince Street location

Friday, April 21st 11-1pm – Heart Health with Lorraine Teasdale (Dietitian)
Join us for a lunch hour of learning about the five secrets to a healthy heart. Food samples, recipes, and handouts provided!  We will also have guest speakers participating to provide further information and discussion to our participants. This week’s speakers:  New Dawn Enterprises to discuss local initiatives & Wilma Menzies, Senior Safety Coordinator for Sydney to discuss scam prevention.

Friday, April 28th 11-1pm – In the Kitchen with Chef Franklin
Chef Franklin is cooking up something good for local seniors. Join him in the kitchen to learn simple recipes that stretch the dollar and save you time. Franklin wants to re-introduce participants to the “cook once, eat many times” method so you can make the most out of meal times again. Participants get to enjoy the lunch he prepares with demonstration.

Friday, May 5th 11-1pm – Bone Health with Lorraine Teasdale (Dietitian)
Join us for a lunch hour of learning how we can protect and preserve our bones through nutrition and physical activity. Food samples, recipes, and handouts provided! This week’s guest speakers: Sobeys Pharmacy to discuss medications and safety, & Noreen MacLean, Community Links to discuss falls prevention.

Friday, May 12th 11-1pm – In the Kitchen with Chef Franklin
