It Is Time For Accountability and Transparency in CBRM!

While we understand that the Mayor and Council are under a lot of pressure lately due to the decision that was made not to grant HRDL approval for waterfront development, we must challenge the Mayor and Council this morning on an important issue.

The NSEF made a presentation back in February to the CBRM and here is the video:

Then on July 6th we saw the Mayor and Council vote to see if the questions we asked the Mayor and Council to send to both levels of government to seek answers to questions that the government (both levels) will not provide answers to the NSEF. Here is the video of that meeting:

We went through the process and did exactly what we were expected to do but it seems that the same thing happened again, like it did with Cecil Clarke with regards to the audit of the CBRM. “Lost again and not completed”!

This development is a major concern. Is the CBRM Municipal Government our problem? We have been told that it is. The games that are being played at the Civic Center are getting out of control.

The NSEF is planning to protest the Mayor and Council to alert the public and the media that they are in the business of wasting peoples time and resources. The NSEF is fighting so that the Mayor and Council have the proper resources needed to run our municipality. It is a sad day when they are working against that!

When you watch the videos posted here, you will see that there are some councillors who are not ready to call the government out, on this issue. Why?

After 25 years of gathering information (that the CBRM Council should be doing) we are extremely concerned that the questions are being challenged by some new councillors. The NSEF Board over those 25 years has been made up of Political Scientists, Lawyers, Professors, Businesspeople, etc. and we find it extremely arrogant that a few new councillors are working against our long fight. The simple fact is that it is Cape Breton and rural Nova Scotia that generates the total transfer of over $2.4 billion.

If we do not have confirmation that the questions have been sent to both levels of government by mid next week, we will ask the public to join us in a protest outside the Civic Center.

We see our MPs and most MLAs and now our municipal government has fallen into line to ignore this issue as they are probably directed to do so by someone in a higher position. What is the benefit of having elected representatives in this so-called government?

Stay tuned and we will update you when we hear back from the CBRM. We hope you will join us if we need to protest!
