Where we Independent Candidates stand; Where do you?

We have all witnessed the erosion of people in our community whether it be our sons or daughters, our grandchildren or our neighbors. 

Senior government officials see the ongoing decline as inevitable.  In rejecting that theory, we believe Cape Bretoners are wanting their voice reflected in how this island is governed. 

Recently a national polling firm found that 74 % of islanders surveyed are seeking greater control for Cape Breton.

We will challenge the Federal Government in the pursuit of a system change in governance; thereby allowing Cape Breton to become a productive member of the Canadian Family.

Whether it be Healthcare, Transportation, Economic Development, Natural Resources or the treatment of our Seniors to name a few.

Based on their own numbers, the Federal and Provincial Governments are shortchanging Cape Breton of upwards of 200 million dollars a year.

We will challenge the Federal Government and meet with Federal Ministers in all relevant departments to address this unfair treatment and give Cape Bretoners’ the equalization money they are due as set out by the laws of this land.

The Canada Health Act is clear “Provinces must provide reasonable access to insured health services on uniform terms and conditions, without financial and other barriers.” 

We will challenge the Federal Government on their abdication of the Canada Health Act regarding the citizens of Cape Breton.   As part of their obligation as defined in the Canada Health Act, we will call on Health Canada and the Federal Department of Justice for a comprehensive audit of all Federal healthcare dollars coming to Cape Breton and their adherence to the principles of the act.
