Minister of Mental Health and Addiction Services
As previously announced, I will be appointing a Minister of Mental Health and Addiction Services. This Minister will work in tandem with the Ministers of Health, Community Services, and Justice to ensure we are supporting Nova Scotians. This minister will be responsible for some of the following:

  • Oversee the expansion of mental health supports within our hospitals and clinics
  • Develop a proactive mental health lens towards government policies across departments
  • A comprehensive mental health strategy in our education system

Investing in Supports Within our Universities & Colleges
I will extend mental health supports for university and college campuses. The funding will extend into the next contract with our provincial institutions. Our post-secondary institutions have been great partners, and we will continue working together.

Addressing Mental Health Services During COVID-19
I will review ongoing capacity and services to address unique mental health needs during COVID-19.

Expanding Services to Children and Youth
I am committed to investing $3 Million annually to expand mental health services to children and youth across Nova Scotia.

Tackling Eating Disorders in Nova Scotia
I am committed to creating a separate program aimed at tackling eating disorders in Nova Scotia.
