Live Interview with District 6 Candidate Joe Ward Tonight at 8 PM

I'd like to invite all residents of District 6 as well as the entire CBRM to tune into my Facebook Live interview tonight at 8 PM for a "Candidates Platform" hosted by Jeff McNeil.

Jeff allows questions from all those watching, so I encourage you to join and "Ask Me Anything."

Click the [ Get Reminder ] button below on the Facebook post to be notified when the interview begins.

I also encourage my fellow candidates in District 6 to tune in and challenge me on the issues. So far, Keith MacDonald, Barbara Beaton, and Todd Riley have gone before me.

I challenge Glenn Paruch to also join the rest of the candidates in having an interview with Jeff McNeil on the same platform and give the voters an opportunity to be introduced to him.

As I've been writing on political matters for over five years, I also extend a special invitation to all current incumbent councillors as well as any outgoing this year that would like their chance to challenge me directly—just as I've been challenging them.

Let's make this a tough Q&A. I'm ready for this Council role and I'm fully prepared to take all questions.

Lots of great questions will be asked. Jeff will help you determine who I am, what my focus is, and what I have to offer as a candidate. See you at 8 pm!

Be careful of someone with common sense? I tend to prefer common sense in our elected officials.
Joe Ward My Post Follow Me
Kel, there's two major problems with a strategy for becoming a province (or territory) for that matter. 1. It's incredibly difficult, unlikely, and not to be expected any time in the near future, 2. We aren't currently demonstrating enough effective political leadership to run it even if we achieved it. Lifelong academic, Mark MacNeil, has become a leading figure in the push for this status. However, even MacNeill acknowledges how difficult it is to achieve. The candidates that are running with a heavy commitment to this level of autonomy (status as a province) are among the weakest candidates participating in the election. For these reasons, I see it as neither feasible for the near future nor advisable for the present. Therefore, it makes sense to pursue things we can achieve that can help us now—or very soon—instead. in terms of autonomy, there are three good ideas out there: 1. As-needed (or what I call "al la carte") powers extended to the CBRM to let us implement strategy (e.g. tax policy changes), 2. A municipal charter, or 3. (as noted by Mathew Georghiou recently) A revamping of the MGA Act itself to extend more powers to all municipalities and achieve greater autonomy much more efficiently. Greater power in setting taxation policy, via any of these 3 methods, could have a major impact in the CBRM.
