MISSING: We need your help finding our furbaby, Skye.

Two weeks shy of giving birth to her second child, Brittany McNeil of Glace Bay wasn't packing a go-bag for when her water breaks or making last-minute arrangements to get ready for their little bundle of joy, instead, she found herself searching the neighbourhood for Skye, her Brindle Pitbull that got out and ran off. With swollen ankles and a little girl crying for her puppy, she scoured the streets of the Hub, #2 and surrounding areas of Glace Bay, desperately looking for Skye and yelling her name until her throat was raw. But as the hours passed, a million thoughts raced through her mind: Is Skye okay? Did she fall over the bank? Did she get hit by a car and is lying in a ditch somewhere? Where are you Skye?

I remember when my daughter first told me she was getting a rescue dog. I was expecting a small fur baby like my sister's Shih Tzus, so needless to say I was a bit taken aback when she said she was getting a pit bull. I was never a big lover of dogs to begin with, but hearing the words "pit bull" sent a cold chill down my spine... a feeling that quickly disappeared when I met Skye - the gentlest, sweetest dog I have ever met.

I remember when I was "babysitting" Skye and I let her out to do her business, and the instant Skye realized my sister's dogs were outside too, she bolted for the door - she cleared all five steps and landed inside the house. I couldn't help but laugh at how a big bad "pit bull" could be spooked by a tiny little Shih Tzu.

I always kept treats in the cupboard for when Skye came over for a visit, and if she got a little too excited and made a mess on the floor, she sent herself to the corner and hung her head low - her way of apologizing.

After my granddaughter was born, Emery and Skye were inseparable. Skye watched over her like a mother hen, and never once complained when the baby got a little too grabby. She took it in stride and snuggled up to her every chance she got.

How do you explain to a broken-hearted little girl that her bestest buddy in the whole world, the dog she has known her entire life, has gone missing and you don't know where she's at?

You don't. You keep looking. You call the SPCA, you put the word out any way you can... I asked my friend Jessie to put the word out to her friends who help locate lost pets. Over 700 combined shares later, as well as her getting friends to take their dogs out for a walk specifically to look for her, there's still no word about Skye. How is that possible? It's not like she is a little toy poodle no bigger than a ball of lint that can easily go unnoticed, she's a big, bouncing, tail-wagging bundle of happiness that loves being petted.

My fear is that someone saw Skye and, being the loving and trusting dog that she is, she went to them and they took her. If that is the case, please bring her back. If you know someone who recently acquired a brindle pitbull, please tell them a little girl is crying herself to sleep tonight because her "Skyebaby" is not home to snuggle her. No questions asked. I don't care how you came to have Skye, I only care that my daughter and granddaughter get her back. Call the SPCA if you want and tell them you found her wandering and drop it off to them. I don't care. Just do the right thing and give Skye back to her family.

If you have any information on Skye's whereabouts, please message me or my daughter (listed below) or contact the SPCA.
Thank you.
