Rozicki To Fight In Valentine's Day Massacre at Centre 200

Cape Breton has a long and storied history of rugged men, hardened by their daunting work. On the sea, they were hardened by wind, salt, and frigid cold. In the mines, they eked out a livelihood in the perilous and unforgiving darkness of the earth. And in the ring, many a man battled on against slim odds, staring down adversity to claim victory for their Island. In the Cape, men like Giant MacAskill and William Davis never truly die. They live on at every pub and diner table from Ingonish to Port Hawkesbury. Ryan “The Bruiser” Rozicki (11-0-0, 11KOs) may have a ways to go, but he’s looking to the old legends as he builds his boxing career.

“MacAskill was a monster of a man. Folks like strength here. It’s still true today. People just wanted to see him and admire his size and power. Everyone knows who the Giant was and they’re damn proud of the glory he brought to the Island. And William Davis? We learned about him in school. He stood up to the mine bosses in New Waterford, back when doing so could mean your life. He stood up for his co-workers and their families and was gunned down for it. Hell of a man, Billy Davis. People still hold memorials to him. Those times are gone. Most of the mines are closed. I can’t be those guys, no one can, but they make it easy to find inspiration.”

Rozicki is the reigning, undefeated WBC Silver International and NABA Canadian cruiserweight champion. In his last bout, things looked dire for Rozicki. His opponent, an undefeated Russian-American named Khetag Pliev, split his brow wide open in the first round. The cut went through to Rozicki’s skull. A doctor’s stoppage wasn’t just possible, it was highly likely. With victory seemingly slipping away, Rozicki summoned up the resolve to fight on, blasting away at Pliev throughout the second round, battering his foe about the ring. Pliev hit the canvas once. Then twice. His corner screamed for their man to rise and beat the count. Referee Mark Simmons, however, saved Pliev from additional punishment, waving off the fight.Everyone who saw Rozicki-Pliev, will carry that tale with them for the rest of their lives.

The severity of Rozicki’s cut brow has delayed his return fight in Cape Breton, but ‪on February 14 the Bruiser returns to Centre 200, to continue his march up the world rankings. “I want to bring that world title back to Cape Breton and take it from town to town, village to village,” said Rozicki. “I want to bring it home for everyone and celebrate on every square inch of this Island. It’s going to happen.”

The return of Ryan Rozicki will be the main event of Three Lions Promotions’ “Valentine’s Day Massacre” at the Centre 200 in Sydney, Nova Scotia. “We are releasing Ryan’s opponent in the days to come. Every fight needs to count at this point in his career, there’s no going backwards now,” said Daniel Otter, Managing Director of Three Lions Promotions. “I’ve said it before, styles make fights and you can guarantee his Valentine’s Day bout will best them all.”

The card will also feature the pro debut of amateur standout Josh Prince of Georges River and both Wilcox brothers, Jessie 14-0 and Bradley 9-0, will also be returning to the Island. The full card will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets are available now online via tickets.capebreton.ca and in person at the Centre 200 box office.
