On January 6, 2023, at age of 91, he passed away peacefully during his sleep. Robert was born in Sydney, N.S., to the late Blanche (Powell) and Walter Donald Marks. He leaves in mourning son Gary (Yvette) and daughter Gail (Brent); grandsons, Scott and James (Katelyn). Brothers, Donald, Walter (Yolanda) and a sister, Mary Lou and a sister-in-law, Joan. He also leaves in mourning several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce; brothers, William and Douglas; sisters-in-law, Stella and Renee, as well as brother-in-law, Jack. In his younger years Robert was an avid golfer and played senior hockey while living in Newfoundland, As the grandkids grew up, he would bring his grandsons and try to teach them the sport of golf. He also took interest in teaching his grandsons his love of music. He was very proud of his family, trying to be present for every birthday, even driving to Prince Edward Island for his daughter Gail’s birthday every year. He was also present for most of the grandkids sporting events or music concerts/competitions that his grandsons participated in. Robert was a very active member of his community and very much into family genealogy. He volunteered as a musician playing his Hawaiian steel guitar in a fun band at Northwood Manor. He also volunteered as a radio announcer for the Northwood Community Broadcasting Radio Station, accompanied by his wife Joyce. Celebration of life and Internment will be held at Lake Ainslie in Cape Breton this upcoming summer. Date and time to be determined.
