The Dismantling of the Mira Gut Bridge Has Begun

The Mira Gut bridge was found to be structurally unsound. Since we last shared news of its final closure, some locals say it appears the structural degradation of its water supports has gotten worse.

As the photo above shows, crews have been dismantling the bridge starting with the wooden roadway surface. Once removed, more of the underlying rusty steel is revealed.

At an estimated 140 years old, everyone who grew up in Mira has known this bridge for their entire life and it often plays an important role from their own childhood, youthful years of adventure, and again as parents and grandparents as their lives progress.

I wonder if DOT 'thought' it'd keep itself in good condition..there will be LOTS of backlash if they don't replace it.
