The Final Days Of The Mira Gut Bridge

The Mira Gut bridge has been closed for months to both cars and pedestrians. It's no longer safe for passage. Not only does its closure interrupt the Marconi Trail from Louisbourg to Glace Bay, it also creates inconveniences for some local residents.

Hornes Road and Brickyard Road still provide access to Highway 22 (the Sydney Louisbourg Highway). Depending on which side of the bridge people live and their destination, it may be a major disruption to commuting for some local residents.

Commenters on social media speculated that the replacement could take years. Additional complexity is involved as the bridge is at the mouth of the Mira River and must allow for boat traffic to pass through.
