THE HAT GOES THROUGH PUBERTY

January 4th, 2017. Sydney, NS. This Monday, the Highland Arts Theatre opens its 2017 Winter/Spring Season with a Canadian Comedy Award-Winning hit: Morro & Jasp Do Puberty. The show brings internationally acclaimed clown duo, Amy Lee and Heather Marie Annis, to Cape Breton for the first time for a week-long run of their award-winning show where they reprise their roles as two clown sisters about to go through “the change”. A hilarious look back at the best period of your life! Morro and Jasp are at that age where the hormones are always flaring, the telephone is always ringing, and the punk rock can never be too loud. As Morro attempts to learn about feminine hygiene products, bras and fashion, all Jasp can think about is the boy of her dreams. 60 minutes of laughter, longing, tears and tampons. The show has toured all over Canada with multiple productions in Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and even a stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The company has been nominated for three Dora Mavor Moore Awards (winning the 2012 Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble), three Canadian Comedy Awards (winning the 2014 Award for Best Variety Act), a Broadway World Award and over ten NOW Magazine Awards including Outstanding New Play, Outstanding Production, Outstanding Ensemble, and Outstanding Direction. Their cookbook, Eat Your Heart Out with Morro and Jasp, was published by Tightrope Books and won a 2015 Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Innovative Cookbook. Following the production each night, audiences will be treated to a bonus song circle featuring three local singer/songwriters: Carmen Townsend, Alicia Penney, and Colette Deveaux. “It’s basically two shows for the price of one,” said Artistic Director Wesley J. Colford. Winter/Spring Season Ticket Packages are still available, offering tickets for the HAT’s 5 main productions (including this one) for only $100 – over 35% savings. The production runs January 9th to 14th at 8:00 PM at the Highland Arts Theatre (40 Bentinck St.). Tickets are $25 ($15 for students and youth 23 & under) and can be purchased at the HAT Box Office (open 11:00 – 4:00, Monday-Friday), over the phone at (902) 565-3637, or by visiting the Highland Arts Theatre website: www.highlandartstheatre.com.
