CBC: 40 Teaching Positions Cut, Losing 450-500 Students Per Year

CBC reports that the Cape Breton Victoria School Board is eliminating 40 teaching positions (via retirements) for September.

They note enrollment declining by up to 500 students per year.

This is an unfortunate measure of a shrinking economy.

Funny how no matter how many students we lose and teaching positions we cut, the size of the administration seems to stay the same. If it's shrinking also, we have yet to be advised. Those cuts will come at the provincial level, not self induced.

Are we not only losing them, but losing them an at accelerated rate? "MacIsaac said the student population in the board last year was 13,656 and this year's projected enrolment is 13,256."
