Garbage has been a hot topic lately. We put our regular trash separate from the big green bins, so two loads go out. Birds and animals often find the good bags to tear open, scattering garbage everywhere. From what I’ve noticed, after putting compostables in the big bin, there’s still plenty of empty space. Sometimes bags blow onto the road, and most of it isn’t cleaned up by the owner. Yet both garbage and green bins are collected by the same truck and person. Not everyone will buy a separate garbage can or use a cover. So why not let people put their trash bags in the green bin, on top of compostables? The collector has to open the lid anyway, so it’s no extra effort. Birds can’t get at it, and there’s only one bin to bring back in. Plus, it’s less likely the wind will blow it around. Just a thought.
