Police arrest two impaired drivers overnight

Cape Breton Regional Police remind motorists to drive sober after removing two impaired drivers from the roadway during the evening of July 7th. Police responded at approximately 8:30 PM to reports of a dispute between two persons in a vehicle at the parking lot of the Lick a Treat in Florence. On arrival, the two persons had already been separated; officers located alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle and observed signs of impairment when speaking with the driver. The 30-year old woman was arrested and refused a breath sample. She was later released and is scheduled to appear in Sydney Provincial Court in September facing charges of Impaired Driving and Refusal of a Breath Demand. The second person, also a 30-year-old female, was arrested on Breach of several previous Court-ordered conditions and is scheduled to appear in Sydney Provincial Court today. Later at approximately 1:30 AM, police were called to a single vehicle collision on the Louisbourg Highway where they located a vehicle in the ditch and driver and lone occupant with injuries to his leg. While assisting the driver, officers observed signs of impairment and further determined he was the subject of an outstanding warrant for failing to attend Court, in breach of several conditions of his previous Court-ordered release and was driving with a revoked drivers license and invalid license plates and insurance. He was transported to Cape Breton Regional Hospital by EHS for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and a blood sample was obtained for further investigation of blood concentration. The 27-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Sydney Provincial Court in September, to face charges of Impaired Driving and 5 Breaches of Conditions. He was also issued 3 Summary Offence Tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act. Motorists are reminded that consuming alcohol or drugs impairs their ability to drive safely; plan ahead for a designated driver or call a taxi. If you suspect and impaired driver, call 9-1-1 with as much information as possible, such as vehicle description, license plate and direction of travel. -30- Desiree Magnus Communications / PR Advisor Cape Breton Regional Police Service
