Cape Breton Regional Municipality's police commission is looking to get its citizen members some money.

The board is asking the cash-strapped CBRM council to provide a stipend, much like other police commissions in Nova Scotia.

Tom Vickers, one of three citizen members of CBRM's commission, said he accepted the position as a volunteer and the lack of remuneration is not a problem now.

But it could make it difficult to recruit or retain commissioners in the future and paying members is one of the recommendations of the Mass Casualty Commission, he said.

Raymond Mac Donald Follow Me 2026-06-19 6:17 AM ADT Reply 0 0 Biting my tongue.These citizens are true volunteers as when they signed up there was no money involved.So...last year Council was presented a $4 Million Dollar spending bill presented to them 3 hours before a meeting...no time to read,digest or brainstorm amongst each other.They approved it.Now they say "no" to gas money for true/important volunteers because they say we can't afford it???Good gaud what kind of a crew did we elect to look after us???There is a general theory behind good government...common sense.We can do better than this.
