Music surrounded acclaimed Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster when she was growing up in Inverness County.
Her father played the fiddle, her mother danced and her uncle Hugh Allan (Buddy) MacMaster is credited with bringing Cape Breton fiddling to the world stage.
“I carried a little something extra with having his name, you know, the MacMaster name,” she said in an interview. “It gave me a little edge up or a little step ahead.”
