CBRM Port Sustainable If Bus-Dev Costs Excluded Says CEO

SYDNEY – The Port of Sydney Development Corp. is financially self-sustaining, if the costs for business development are excluded, says CEO Marlene Usher.

In an interview Friday, Usher clarified the port’s finances, saying the investments being made to attract new business to Sydney Harbour, including a possible container terminal, are being made with funds left over from the harbour dredging project in 2012.

“When I joined the port (last year), they were self-sustainable, before I joined it,” Usher said.

They would be self-sustaining if they spent less. I thought the HPDP group was paying the costs of attracting new business, and the leftover funds from dredging were supposed to be for new navigational aids. The only thing self-sustaining is the funny business.
