Help CB School of the Arts get on the Thunderstruck Canada cover!

Cape Breton School of the Arts

NEEDS YOU!

Thunderstruck Canada's Cover Photo Contest. Vote for your favourites. Top 3 from each city will be highlighted on the program cover. Pictures in the Gallery are randomly presented. Voting ends Dec. 31 at 5PM EST.

You may recall that it is Susan Gallops, dance school, The Cape Breton School of the Arts in Westmount that vandals caused over $200,000 in damage this year (Cape Breton dance studio vandalized). The studio was previously damaged in the floods last year and recovered. Then those vandals (AKA a******s) did their part which left the building unusable.

Fundraising is ongoing but has a long way to go. Work has been delayed until the groundwork to clean up the oil has been taken care of.

The school trudges on thanks to community venue support, but they had to do classes at Holy Angels on slippery floors. This year they are trying to do tap, ballet and everything else on carpet at the fire hall in Westmount.

Now to the ask. Although there is no cash prize, just a reward for hard work and determination. It would be a great boost to their moral to get on the cover. Please VOTE via the link below and share this post. Again, voting goes until New Years Eve and we are about 140 votes behind. Let’s help these kids out!

Thank you for the amazing article, Nigel. These kids have been through a lot the last two years but continue to push forward as a family. Due to Hurricane Matthew they learned how to tap dance on slippery gym tile at the former Holy Angel's High School, there were plenty of sore muscles, slips, and falls, but they pulled it together and put on an amazing performance. They took home some top awards, many top 10 awards, a top 5 school award, the School Spirit Award, and many of them for a competition in Quebec. We were hoping to be better prepared this year but the loss of the school to vadalism has been a huge setback. That said, these kids show up every week and give it their all supporting one another. Their shoes will probably all have to be replaced from dancing on the carpet and they do have some actual floor to dance on. The Westmount Fire Department and community in general has been great but we have a long way to go for sure. In the middle of all this, a lot of these dancers continue to perform every year in the Acoustic Roots Festival in support of the Wildlife Park.
