The Sydney, Cape Breton, Rotary Club sponsored local musical productions from 1955 until 1984.

In 1964, “South Pacific” was presented at the Vogue Theatre. For some of these amateur productions, professionals were brought in to fill one or two of the lead roles. This year two members of the Canadian Opera Company, Jan Rubes and William Copeland, joined the cast. Both continued to have successful and varied careers. Two decades later Jan Rubes was to play alongside Harrison Ford in the 1985 film “Witness.”
