2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Call For VOLUNTEERS

Mary-Anne Arsenault & Christina Black

The 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts is coming to Centre 200 from February 16 to 24, and we are doing a call for volunteers!

We are actively recruiting volunteers in the following key areas:

Arena, Rocks, and Ice

Most but not all of the Volunteers will need their Level 1 or 2 Ice Technician's Certification. There is space for those without their certification to be a part of the committee.

Volunteers need to be available for the week preceding the event to install the ice, maintain the ice during the competition, and remove the ice upon the conclusion of the event.

Scorers, Statisticians and Timers
Volunteers will be directed by the Curling Canada Chief Umpire and Head Statistician. Duties include on-ice observing, statisticians for scoring competitors shots, and timers for managing the time clocks.

Training will be provided for this committee.

Event Services and Accreditation
Volunteers will provide pre-event accreditation services to volunteers, VIP's, athletes and media. During the event, volunteers act as access-control monitors at specific locations to check accreditation, such as team locker rooms.

HeartStop Lounge
Volunteers will be directed by Curling Canada's Bar Services Manager to serve beer, wine and spirits; assist with inventory control; stocking/restocking of coolers, and table clean-up. Volunteers will also act as event ambassadors and assist patrons in ordering and paying for drinks using a cashless banking system. No handling of cash is required.

The HeartStop Lounge is open approximately 13 hours per day, so some shifts may not conclude until midnight or later.

Transportation

Team Services consists of Drivers and Dispatchers. Dispatchers assign tasks to drivers, who provide transportation to the Teams and VIP's, which include pick-ups and drop-offs at airport(s).

Shifts will begin several days before the event starts, and will finish February 25th. Vehicles will be provided for drivers, who will have to provide a driver's abstract to meet insurance requirements.

Program Sales
Assist in setting-up tables, and selling official souvenir programs to the public.

To become a volunteer you must be at least 19 years of age and can contribute 30 hours of volunteer service. Volunteers are required to pay a fee of $100 to cover the cost of clothing.

As a volunteer you will receive official volunteer clothing, access to the famous HeartStop Lounge with live entertainment, invitation to the volunteer appreciation party, and access to the venue when not on shift!

If you would like to be involved in this once-in-a-lifetime event, or have any questions, please register online at https://www.curling.ca/2019scotties/ or contact Maddie at  [email protected]
