5-lb Chain Pickerel Caught In Blacketts Lake

Chain pickerel is an introduced species in Nova Scotia and may represent a threat to the habitat for other fish species. Blacketts Lake is one location known for them.

Angler Scott MacPherson posted a photo of a 5-lb chain pickerel a friend caught on April 23rd to the Cape Breton Fishing Fanatics facebook group. Jon Bishop also posted a picture of his 22-inch chain pickerel catch, as did Gerald Rogers with a 19-inch catch, and Michael Donovan with a 22", 2.2 lb catch. Clearly, the chain pickerel are biting.

With the opening of fishing season, the Fishing Fanatics group has shared many recent catches from local anglers in the past few weeks. Species include brown trout, speckled trout, striped bass, and some salmon.
