A very large group of crows (called a "murder") has been hanging out on the Sydney waterfront. While this scene is quite interesting to many of us, it may be a bit unsettling for those with Ornithophobia (a fear of birds).
Why is a group of crows called a "murder"?
Way back in 1486 there was a book called "The Book of St. Albans". The book contained a list of names for collective groups of animals - and many were humorous.
A murder of crows likely has associations to how commonly crows are thought of as omens of death. For example, they are scavengers that tend to show up when there is something dead nearby. A more interesting potential origin involves a folktale where groups of crows gather together to decide the "capital fate" of another crow. [Source: Quora]
