Big Spruce Brewing out of Nyanza is teaming up with Parks Canada, The Alexander Graham Bell Museum, and The Bells of Baddeck to brew, for a very select and limited summer release, a brew based on a recipe from Alexander Graham Bell's notes.
The syrup will be based on Bell's recipe for "rasperry vinegar" which would have been bottled and sold to be mixed with water. There was no mention of alcohol in Bell's notes, but Big Spruce has taken the liberty to create a wheat ale, fermented and aged on fresh raspberries.
The brewery was approached by staff of the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site in Baddeck to create a beer for the upcoming museum's musical drama, The Bells of Baddeck, which begins July 3rd.
The brew, named after Bell's early model aircraft the Silver Dart, will be available for a limited release at Big Spruce's Nyanza tasting room and at a few drinking establishments in Halifax.
