Brain Worm in a Moose in Cape Breton

In November 2018, a bull moose was discovered on French Mountain in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. It was unable to stand and had to be euthanized. After examining the body, an adult nematode worm, more common in white-tailed deer, was found embedded in its brain. The parasitic condition is called “parelaphostrongylosis”.
