The following letter was published today. Father Maroun will not back down until Brian Comer unblocks Charles Sampson. Politicians are responsible for their own accountability and transparency to their constituents.
Here is the letter:
LOCAL POLITICIANS NEED TO BE CHALLENGED
I find politics so corrupt and crooked.
That said, now that the Nova Scotia government has called an election, we the people have the power once again. But will we use it wisely and make informed decisions?
Here is an example of a politician ignoring the facts. Cape Breton MLA Brian Comer has still not unblocked my friend and colleague Charles Sampson on social media. Charles was blocked for asking a respectable question and making a respectable comment.
Politicians should not be allowed to block constituents for asking questions or making respectable comments, as it is undemocratic. I have written to the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia, Premier Tim Houston and the Ombudsman about this alarming situation but all have ignored the correspondence and Comer still has not unblocked Sampson.
Since we are stating some facts today, let us continue.
During bill 340, local MLAs Kendra Coombes, Fred Tilley, Zach Churchill and Derek Mombourquette all stood in the legislature and made compelling arguments that the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM), being the second largest municipality in Nova Scotia, should have a separate funding deal with the province.
Why Mombourquette did not do this when his party was in a majority government situation is a question voters should ask when Derek knocks on your door looking for your support in the provincial election that is now underway. After all he is now saying to vote for him and the Liberals, and they will give the CBRM $300 million if they return to power.
Wow.
You can’t make this stuff up. Anyway, after their compelling arguments were made, the vote was called during which Cape Breton’s five PC MLAs (Comer, John White, Keith Bain, Trevor Boudreau and Allan MacMaster) all stood up and voted “NO” to the CBRM having a separate funding arrangement.
Why would any politician from any party vote against something that greatly benefits the municipality?
Comer and White (the other three are not from the CBRM) should be ashamed of themselves for doing what they are told by a party leader if that is what happened. They should be representing us, not Tim Houston. This is an example of the politics on display that I mentioned in my opening statement.
Now we see that MacMaster is going to run for a federal seat on behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada. Well, former and current MPs Rodger Cuzner, Mark Eyking, Jaime Battiste and Mike Kelloway have achieved nothing in the lines of fairness for us in Ottawa with regards to equalization so what will MacMaster do?
One day we will see how corrupt the equalization scandal is in Canada. So remember this come election time. If you do not challenge those looking for your vote on these important issues, we are as bad as them. It is our job as voters to hold the government accountable and transparent on issues that directly impact our daily lives.
