Christine Robinson, Executive Director at the Ally Centre of Cape Breton, issued a warning via social media to recreational cocaine users in Cape Breton.
She says there are unconfirmed reports that some of the local cocaine supply may be laced with a strong opioid that could potentially be fentanyl.
She suggested that cocaine laced with such a strong opiod could cause the "nod" effect, or a state of heavy sedation, that quickly follows the initial (and "desired") "upper effect". This also increases the danger of overdose.
