The Cape Breton Business Hall of Fame is held each year. This year marks the events 13 year. The event is a partnership of the Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce and Cape Breton University. The proceeds from the gala are awarded as scholarships and bursaries to returning business students enrolled at Cape Breton University.
These financial awards are known at CBU as the Cape Breton Business Hall of Fame Scholarships and Bursaries. It’s important to understand that these financial awards are presented to returning business students, not those entering a first year of study. That’s a strategic decision, based on the belief that returning students are much more likely to complete their degrees at CBU and begin their graduate careers in Cape Breton.
In its history, this event has raised over $125,000 for Cape Breton business students. The students who were lucky enough to receive the Cape Breton Business Hall of Fame scholarships and bursaries awards this year were: Matthew Bennett, Allie Pertus, Cody Delaney, Cyril MacDonald, Kyle MacKay, Garrett MacDonald and Melissa Dilney.
Thank you Cape Breton University students and best of luck in your future studies and careers.
This year we honoured entrepreneurs, community leaders and fellow Cape Bretoners, who - by their drive, smarts, innovation and leadership, have inspired all of us.
There were four individuals who have achieved business and community success over a sustained period of time. Each had a measureable impact on our local and regional economies. Because of their efforts and successes, they have brought recognition to Cape Breton and have inspired their communities.
The 2015 Cape Breton Business Hall of Fame inductees are:
• Joe Barrington - J.J. Barrington Wheel Alignment and Autobody
• Bette MacDonald - Entertainer, also known as Mary Morrison
• Arnie Rudderham - Rudderhams Source for Sports
• John and Ted van Zutphen - Zutphen Contracting.
Congratulations to the inductees!
