A new Cape Breton company is launching a line of 100% All-Natural hair care products. 

DavidWayne Naturals was founded by David MacPherson, who manufactures and distributes hair care products from his location in Lingan, NS.

“Once upon a time, humans cleaned their hair with natural ingredients,” says MacPherson. “Then came the Industrial Revolution with its mass production of cleaning products (including shampoos) that used harsh, man-made chemicals.”

“Manufacturers quickly realized that using chemicals to make shampoos and conditioners was easier and cheaper than sourcing and processing natural ingredients. So that is what they decided to do, and they continue to make shampoo this way up to the present day.” 

“Even expensive shampoos and conditioners that trumpet the use of organics consist mostly of man-made chemicals,” says MacPherson. “Read the label and see what percentage is organic (usually less than 10%) vs. chemicals with names you can’t pronounce. These substances are not good for your hair and scalp.” 

MacPherson learned this lesson the hard way. While working as a carpenter, he washed his hair daily with regular shampoo, but this dried out his scalp and led to dandruff. He switched to dandruff shampoos to solve the problem, but was appalled to learn that they contained many chemicals that were potentially harmful, some even carcinogenic. 

This led him to research the history and science of hair care, and realize that many other people were also concerned about using harmful chemicals and looking to natural solutions. After 6 years of effort, MacPherson developed formulations for a shampoo and a conditioner that use 100% natural ingredients, and DavidWayne Naturals was born. 

“We have conducted extensive testing and are now ready for market,” says MacPherson. “Test subjects have all seen improvements in their hair -  softer, shinier, fuller, and PH balanced.”

Working out of his home in Lingan, MacPherson recently launched his products in Cape Breton, but sees a huge potential to sell throughout North America as consumers look to healthier, more natural, hair-care solutions.
