The Cape Breton Fiddlers Marathon will race through the historic waterfront of Sydney, Nova Scotia on September 11, 2022. The annual running event will see the return of the 5km, 10km, half marathon and full marathon routes for the first time since 2018.
The marathon is a public event that brings together hundreds of runners, volunteers and spectators to celebrate the community and culture on the Island. Whether you're new to the sport or a seasoned runner, all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate.
“We are excited for the return of the Cape Breton Fiddlers Marathon after a long three-years without the event,” says Bernadette MacLellan, Vice Chair, Cape Breton Fiddlers Marathon. “The marathon has been a long-standing tradition in our community, with the first run taking place in 2005. The Cape Breton Fiddlers Marathon has had an important impact on the running community in Cape Breton and beyond as it provides a great opportunity for runners to get their feet wet in longer distance running,” she says.
Runners will be joined by talented Cape Breton musicians and cheerful fans to provide encouragement along the way. The flat, paved course is perfect for first time runners and those looking to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
This year, there is also an option to run the race virtually, allowing runners to participate from anywhere.
Registration for the virtual Cape Breton Fiddlers Marathon is open until August 25th, 2022. Registration for the in-person Cape Breton Fiddlers Marathon is open until September 4th, 2022. All participants will receive a race kit which includes a race bib, buff and professional chip timing.
Individuals can register online at www.capebretonfiddlersrun.com.
