A 30-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection to a domestic disturbance on the Esplanade in Sydney, and will face 8 charges in Sydney Provincial Court today.
Cape Breton Regional Police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance Thursday night, May 11th, just before midnight. Police arrived to a group of individuals, all known to each other, including one who drove off in a vehicle at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but discontinued any pursuit in the interest of safety. Police later received information that the suspect was at a residence on Maple Hill Drive in the Millville / Big Bras d’Or area, where he was then arrested with assistance from Victoria County RCMP. Officers also located the vehicle he was driving and noted ammunition inside.
As a result of details obtained during further investigation of the original report of a disturbance and his leaving the scene, Colin James Penny is charged with Discharging a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon, Assault with a Weapon, Flight from Police, Assault Police and Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle.
