Do You Live with Depression?

Hello,

My name is Dave Johnson and I am the founder of MindSentinel, a Cape Breton-based startup that is developing a mental health app that is focused on depression.

Do you live with depression? Have you experienced at least one major depressive episode in your life? If so, I would really like to chat with you and hear your thoughts on depression and relapse. And don't worry, we're not selling anything. This is all about learning from you.

Each interview would last approximately 15-20 minutes and, given COVID-19 realities, will be conducted via phone/online.

I myself was diagnosed in the early 2000's with Major Depressive Disorder and have experienced several episodes since. And I know that mental health and depression are sensitive topics for some, quite understandably. So I want to stress that these interviews will be conducted in a respectful way that protects your privacy. Calls will not be recorded. I will take some notes and any information gathered will be anonymized so that no piece of information can be connected with any individual.

If you are interested in participating please do get in touch and we can arrange a day and time that is convenient for you:

Take care,
Dave

A few extra thoughts: - Thank you so much to the folks who have been in touch to set up an interview. Much appreciated! - If you haven't experienced depression but have friend or loved one who has, please feel free to share this post with them - Participants are welcome to take part in testing of the first available version of the app, when it is complete Thanks again!

Extra, extra thoughts: - I want to thank everyone who has reached out! - There is an interesting trend developing: only about 20% of respondents identify as male. My guess is that this is, in part, due to concerns about stigma that persist about depression and male-identifying persons. It is viewed by some as a 'weakness'. That's just not true. Depression is as real and legitimate as a broken leg or a fever.
