You know you've always wanted to wear your favorite piece of tartan clothing, while riding a bicycle around town! We knew it, too. So, Escape Outdoors is hosting the Great Tartan Bicycle Ramble on July 21st @ 6:30 p.m. in North Sydney.
This is an event for the whole family, groups or come on your own. Just a $5 registration fee (100% of proceeds will be donated to Bartown Festival Society) and Escape Outdoors will provide free snacks and refreshments after the ride. Those interested in a meal beforehand can pre-purchase tickets on a Pedal Power Pasta dish.
Wear as little (tie or scarf) or as much tartan as you like (head to toe) and there's a prize for the best, tackiest, tartan Highlander, to be decided by the cyclists.
What's the Great Tartan Ramble all about?
I guess you could say it's Cape Breton's version of the English Tweed Ride, now a worldwide phenomenon, started in London in the fall of 2009. The organizers of that ride thought that it would be fun to have a slower-paced “cosmopolitan ride with a bit style”. So they dressed in tweeds, and rode their bikes through London streets. We, at Escape Outdoors, thought...."well, we're in Cape Breton, there has to be some tartan in the mix"....and so was borne, The Great Tartan Bicycle Ramble!
Let's have the biggest parade of plaid (on bikes) Cape Breton has ever seen! Join the event page, The Great Tartan Ramble, on Facebook, and bring your friends and kids for some cool, and cultural fun.
