Emma Steven’s performs “I Want To Rise” at the former site of the Shubenacadie residential school.

Emma Stevens is no stranger to the music scene. The video of her singing The Beatle’s Blackbird in Mi’kmaq backed by her classmates from Eskasoni’s Allison Bernard Memorial High School has racked up 1.6 million views on YouTube.

This past National Day for Truth and Reconciliation you would have found Stevens on the shore of the Shubenacadie River at the former site of the Shubenacadie residential school singing her song I Want To Rise. The performance was broadcast nationally on CBC.
