You are 355 metres (1165 ft) above sea level. Hike from the top of the mountain about 6 km (3.7 mi) down to a small ocean cove and grassy clearing - the only designated wilderness campsite in the Park. The trail is steep in some places and you will find yourself making good use of the benches that are placed along the way. Fishing Cove is nestled into a valley with rolling slopes on either side of a river that leads into the cove. CAUTION: If you are planning a fill-up at the brook you may want to bring a water filter or purification tablets. This is a great hike for those who love wilderness camping. Because of the great length of the trail (about three hours each way) it is highly recommended that you carry in your camping gear and spend the night. There are level platforms to set your tent up on and outhouses are available. Campers are required to bring a camp stove (no open fires allowed), pack out all garbage (no garbage receptacles) and bring their own drinking water. No potable water on site. NOTE: You must register for a backcountry permit upon entering the Park. From your tent you are within five minutes of the beach, a still water to wash up in, the river that leads into the cove, and a few short walking trails that will assist you in exploring the cove. This trail is 12 km (7.5 mi) return and there is also a 5.7 km (3.5 mi) alternate route. Hiking time is 5 - 6 hours. Its significant features are Acadian forest, ocean cove and headlands. There are two trailheads, both on the Cabot Trail at the top of MacKenzie Mountain. Visit our website for further
