Flight from police on an ATV - a federally indictable crime

"Flight from Peace Officer" is a federally indictable crime, not a summary offense (much more serious). We need CBRM Police Services to lay more of these charges instead of saying "our hands are tied, we can't chase ATVs". You don't need to chase them anymore, once they flee they are committing a federally indictable crime. This warrants follow-up investigations and charges!  This is a big problem in District 9/10 and we should see regular announcements about charges laid for fleeing a peace officer and off-road vehicle act charges, like in Antigonish. Why are we not seeing these types of announcements?

The law is a recent one and put in place because of the dangers that fleeing on a motorized vehicle creates for Peace Officers and the public (and the perpetrator).Read more about it HERE and the life lost that inspired the law:

"Offences under s. 320.17 [flight from peace officer] are hybrid. If prosecuted by indictment, the maximum penalty is 10 years incarceration. If prosecuted by summary conviction, the maximum penalty is 2 years less a day jail and/or a $5,000 fine (from Sept 19, 2019) ."

The following post is available here: Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Nova Scotia

You can see that the RCMP went to the homes of the suspected criminals and arrested them. after the fact.
