BACK WITH UPGRADES, MUSIC, FUNDRAISING AND LIVE SPECIAL GUESTS

Cape Breton, N.S.  - It was during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic when family members and performers Jenn Sheppard, Jordyn Crocker and Stephen Muise, decided to put their homegrown “Garbage Night Sessions” on Facebook live for the first time.

For ten weeks, viewers could tune in on Thursday evenings at 7 o’clock to join the trio in their living room, singing songs, playing trivia games and raising money for local charities, with the help of some well-known “on screen” special guests, kraft dinner boxes and Garbage Night Session toques.

The family was overwhelmed by the response and were able to raise over $65,000 for local charities as well as purchase and deliver 48 iPads to 25 long-term care facilities in Cape Breton. “We didn’t do any of it alone,” says Jenn Sheppard. “Business owners, moms and dads, even young kids; people from all over the island offered us help. We just got the ball rolling. It was magical.”

The trio has decided to try it all again and will head back to Facebook live for round two on October 1st, 2020 at 7pm. “Everyone is struggling right now, but we’ve proven that we can do good things when we all come together, ”says Muise.  “We’ve been chatting again with Keltic Group and Seaside Cable has also agreed to help us out again. We’re open to any and all support from businesses and individuals.”

With current COVID restrictions allowing for gatherings, the Sessions crew is also excited to announce that their special guests will be joining them live on site from the Garbage Night Sessions studio (the family music room). “Our special guests are all people I look up to,” says Jordyn Crocker. “I feel lucky to get to jam with any one of them. It’s going to be awesome to have them right here with us this time.”

Performers to appear live from the Garbage Night Sessions studio will be Hall of Fame recording artist Aaron C. Lewis with Privateers’ front-man L.J. MacLean, the singing sisters Emily Dingwall and Jenifer Dingwall, multi-instrumentalist Richard Burke, Darren McMullen and Rachel Davis of the award-winning band COIG, the man of 1000 voices Terrance Murphy with radio personality/singer Heather Kerr, Mickey MacIntyre and Nipper MacLeod of the world famous Men of the Deeps, award-winning recording artist Matt Andersen, singer/songwriter Jordan Musycysn with C.B. Summertime Revue’s Margaret MacPherson, powerhouse singer Ashley Buckingham, Gemini Award-winner Bette MacDonald with comedian/director Maynard Morrison.

Adam MacLean will also join the Garbage Night Sessions crew this time around. "The last time we did this, I was in charge of all the tech, the switching, the internet. This time we'll have someone here who actually knows what they're doing," laughs Sheppard. Adam is a senior high student at Breton Education Centre who also works closely with Crew Productions, a multi-media company operating for 25 years in Cape Breton. Along with launching his own radio station when he was just 15 years old, Adam has proven himself to be a valuable member of any tech crew. Jenn Sheppard couldn't be more relieved. "I told Adam that he and I would work together when he was just in grade 7. We're so glad he'll be here to keep us sane." 

Garbage Night Sessions 2 will once again attempt to raise money for various local charities but are also asking audience members to consider donating $50 to a Musician Fund for performers. “It works out to be $5 per show.” says Stephen Muise. “If you can afford to donate that, just once, we’ll be able to pay the performers. This is separate from our charitable fundraising.”
