Whether you’re coming for the food, the view, or the live events, we can’t wait to welcome you back! 🌊🍽️🎶
The new Grand Narrows sign is more than just a beautiful landmark. It’s a reminder of what dedicated volunteers can achieve over time.
For decades, every step forward at the Grand Narrows Waterfront has been shaped by volunteer hands - those who dreamed big, planned carefully, wrote the grants, built and welded, planted and painted, and quietly kept this place going.
As we look ahead, the next 25 years will depend on a new wave of community energy. People with new ideas, local pride, and the willingness to pitch in. The need for volunteers hasn’t gone away... if anything, it matters more now than ever.
If you love what this place has become, we invite you to be part of where it’s going.
We’re always looking for new members and directors to join the team. Whatever your skill set or schedule, there’s a place for you here. Whether you have 2 hours or 20, your time and energy make a real difference.

Sonny Henderson Sign Base
This wonderful sign project at Grand Narrows is a huge accomplishment by the volunteers and team at Grand Narrows Waterfront Society.
This project was able to utilize an existing robust sign foundation previously installed. I was lucky enough this week to hear a bit of history about the sign – through an Oral Tradition exchange. According to Paul A Maclean (Tall Paul), he worked with local welder Sonny Henderson (RIP) to fabricate the anchor bolt cage and the HSS tubing base that was designed for major pylon signs in the mid 1990’s. The robust, high integrity weldment was built and installed by volunteers and grant worker. Those who knew Sonny understand the robust approach he took for all the fabrication and repairs he performed over the years for friends and neighbours. The sign base is another one of Sonny’s signature projects.
While the original wooden sign attached to the base did its job for about 25 years, a reasonable design life for wood structures, the steel and concrete base structure would have about 75 years of design life. Based on today condition of the bases there may be another 50 years of life in the foundation.
Today’s sign project is a success due to the vision and dedication from 30 years ago during planning, grant management and implementation efforts at the Grand Narrows Waterfront.
It will be fun to monitor what vision and actions for the next 25 years at the Waterfront will yield.
