Hanging Daisy

Hanging Daisy by Paul Diekelmann Publisher: Boularderie Island Press Non-Fiction/Historical ISBN: 978-1-926448-00-8 Price: $21.95 Two dramatically diverse lives unite in a marriage that ends with a cruel and bloody murder, intense police investigation and shocking confessions. Daisy Fisher, haunted throughout life by a tragic childhood, is a financially well-off widow and professional homemaker, seeking companionship in her senior years. Dan ‘Spinney’ Morrison, widower, an enigmatic and itinerant carpenter, advertises for a housekeeper-companion. Daisy and Dan meet and begin life together in rural Cape Breton. Hanging Daisy is the true story surrounding a 1957 murder in a quiet Canadian farm community and the mystery that surrounds it to this day. Questions remain about what really happened between Daisy and Dan in that lonely farmhouse…and why? Paul Diekelmann was born in Chicago in 1932. While he was an infant his mother brought him to Cape Breton where she had been born. Paul returned to Chicago in 1954 and joined the US Air Force, married a Cape Breton girl, and was stationed in Honolulu. While there he studied at the University of Hawaii. Paul’s military career involved meteorology, and nuclear, biological and chemical warfare preparedness, and combat telecommunications. Upon leaving active duty, he embarked on a career in Public Health that included maternal and child health programs and ground-breaking work on efforts to eradicate syphilis. Paul holds a BA degree in history and psychology from Florida State University, a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma, and PhD work in Public Health Administration. Together with his wife, Toni, Paul returned to Cape Breton where he has resided since 2003 at Baddeck Forks.
