Harmonizing Consciousness is like having your own King Kong

Would You Like a Happy King Kong to Have Your Back?

Hello, my name is Sylvie Rosewood. I am a clinical hypnotherapist whose interest in consciousness was piqued after I explored mind-body healing methods after a midlife crisis. Different therapies, personal growth workshops and an intense meditation practice transformed my brain mapping processes over several years. Soon I began to feel like I had my own happy King Kong to watch over me. After becoming a clinical hypnotherapist with a successful practice years later, I gained even more insight into the ways of human consciousness by working with my clients. I decided to write a book in 2015.

"Harmonizing Consciousness: How the Acquired Faculty of Language Wreaks Havoc on Human Consciousness, and What We Can Do About It' was finally published this summer.

This book discusses some effective, practical tools and principles for improving well-being for individuals, as well as far-reaching insights for our species. It's a book for people who like to ponder out of the box, are interested in increasing their wellbeing, and who want more insight into why humans are so messed up as a species.

The over-riding problem we are faced with is that we are supposed to be an intelligent species but it is clear we often act otherwise. What other animals make their homes hostile and unliveable, and have such a negative effect on their own community? Individually, anxiety, depression and psychosis are increasingly prevalent.

Current research describes how our past experience shapes our behaviours more than reality itself. My insight into human behaviour is that language is the originating mechanism which is responsible our disassociation to life itself. It is challenging to talk about language because we are like the fish who swim in water, not knowing other possibilities of a medium for living. Most people are unaware of how language is a tool which becomes inseparable from our biofeedback systems, our individual realities and how we live. François Chollet, Google engineer, is well aware of how humans use language as a tool. He states, “Intelligence expansion can only come from a co-evolution of the mind, its sensorimotor modalities, and its environment” in his November 2017 article entitled “The Impossibility of intelligence explosion”. That is also the premise of my book although it is expressed differently.

Some scientists are beginning to suggest that we need to study subjective human experience to better understand our human condition. Knowing how important this subject of subjective experience is firsthand, I have included a smattering of my personal experience in the book to broach this crucial discussion. The use of visual journals was an important way used to connect with my nonverbal intelligence and I have shared some of my images and ideas for keeping a visual journal in the book.

Only readers of the book will understand the mystery of why there is a gorilla tucked into the heading of the front cover  (and more prevalent on the back cover.)
