HAT Offers Ray of Sunshine After One Year of COVID-19

After a long year of uncertainty, near collapse, monumental support from the community, and a long series of last minute adjustments responding to ever changing regulations, the Highland Arts Theatre, its staff, (and every human being on the planet) are feeling the toll of living through a pandemic. The added blanket of mental, emotional, and physical fatigue over the daily stresses that come with the territory of everyday life. However, as we approach the one year anniversary marking the beginning of lockdowns and “unprecedented” moments last March, the Highland Arts Theatre is offering a palette cleanser.

Enter, HERE COMES THE SUN: A Musical Revue of Light, Joy, and Hope for a Brighter Tomorrow. This joyful and intimate concert, featuring music that highlights all the things the title suggests.

Directed and conceived by HAT executive and artistic director Wesley J. Colford, they had this to say about the upcoming theatrical presentation, ”This show is not a mourning of things lost, but a beacon and reminder of the things that will be once again. A way to connect through the weight of this moment and emphasize the positives that can be left out of focus, and just as easily brought back into view. A night of classic songs about optimism from the musical styles of musical theatre, jazz, folk, and pop.”

Colford also appears in the show, performing next to Cape Breton’s own MacKenzie Sechi, Morgan Reid, Katherine Woodford and Matt Campbell. The crew is musically guided and directed by Barb Stetter, leading a five piece band of local musician favourites.

“These singers and these songs are a gift to work with and I really can’t imagine anyone not having their worries, at the very least momentarily, melted away by their voices. There’s some hope on the horizon and we can't wait to share it with you all. God knows we could all use some right about now!” added Colford.

The show opens March 2nd and will run until the 13th with shows Tuesday to Saturday at 8:00PM and Sunday at 2:00PM and 8:00PM. Tickets are now available for purchase over the phone, online, or in person at the HAT’s box office.
