On Monday, February 5th at 1:00PM the Highland Arts Theatre will be presenting to CBRM Council as part of their Stakeholders Meeting to request consideration for funding in the 2018 Budget.
In just 3 years, we have witnessed enormous growth with 13 Mainstage productions a year, dozens of concerts, film screenings, jugglers, and everything in between.
It's an extraordinary Sydney success story, but we need help if we're going to continue. We are a not-for-profit association, yet we receive no on-going funding from any level of government. Our current model of operation is unsustainable, and without diverse revenue streams, we will not be able to continue.
Most theatres in Canada generate approx. 33% of their annual budget from public funding. We've received less than 4%.
We are asking for support from City Hall and the CBRM for 6% of our Annual Budget for 2018. It's a small amount but will mean a world of difference for our operation and will hopefully stimulate interest from provincial and federal funders. Why should they care if our own municipality won't recognize the good we're doing in our community?
And that's the next step. If you see the change we've created, and believe in our mission to spread arts, culture, and change in the CBRM, we need your support.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
1) Come in person to the Council Chambers in City Hall on Monday, Feb. 5 at 1:00 to show your support for our presentation and let Council see the immediate impact in terms of real people. If you have a HAT shirt or hat to wear - even better!
2) Write, message, or call your local Councillor or Politician and tell them you believe in the HAT. We are looking for support from all levels of government and any push you can give will help.
3) Write a message on this post telling how the HAT impacts your life and why you see the value in what we're doing.
4) SHARE THIS POST and get everyone talking. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the tremendous public support we've already received and this is the moment to show how loud our voices are!

We have been working tirelessly for almost 4 years to be the change we want to see, and improve the quality of life for Cape Bretoners - almost exclusively through volunteerism and with a constant eye for artistic, social, and community growth.
