The Cape Breton Highlanders professional basketball franchise has announced that Bernardo Fitz-Gonzalez will be the Head Coach for the upcoming Season 3.
Fitz-Gonzalez is 51 years old, originally from Bogota, Columbia, and currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. He is a FIBA head coach in South America who has competed at a high level internationally in the Liga de Las Americas against top teams in South and Central America. He has the best record in the Colombian Professional League, including leading his team to the most wins in a season in the history of Colombian basketball. He has also been Assistant Coach at East Los Angeles College.
Fitz-Gonzalez is a defensive minded coach with a focus on player development. He was a professional basketball player in Colombia and played for the Colombian National Team.
Team founder, Tyrone Levingston, said, "Coach Bernardo brings international experience and success to our team. I expect his coaching style to mesh well with the players we have signed, and I look forward to our new foundation for Season 3."
Levingston added, “On behalf of the Highlanders organization, I would like to thank Coach Rob Spon for his contribution to our team during Season 2 and we wish him well with his coaching career.”
The Highlanders Season 3 starts in November, with training camp in October.
