The NBL Canada held its international Combine this weekend in Windsor, Ontario. The Combine is an open event for prospective players to demonstrate their skills with the hope of being drafted by one of the ten teams in the league.
Over 150 players from throughout the USA and Canada, as well as the UK, were competing in the professional draft process. At the end of the weekend, each NBL Canada team took turns choosing their best prospects in a private session.
Highlanders President and GM, Tyrone Levingston, represented Cape Breton at the Combine where two players were drafted:
- Murray Deshawn "Duke" Mondy is a 26-year-old, 6’4”, 205 lb point guard from Oakland University. He led the NCAA Division 1 nationally with 3 steals per game. Mondy was drafted by two NBA Development League (NBA G League) teams but did not make it to the final rosters. He is from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
- Damarcus Harrison is a 25-year-old, 6’4”, 205 lb shooting guard from Clemson University, where he averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds per game at the NCAA Division I school. Harrison had a pre-draft workout with the NBA Utah Jazz in 2015 (watch video). He is from Greenwood, South Carolina.
If contracts are signed, the players will attend training camp in Sydney at the end of October to compete for a spot on the team roster, along with other players that were already signed prior to the draft.
The Combine was live streamed online and can be viewed below.
The Cape Breton Highlanders season starts on November 21. Season tickets are on sale now - find out more at HighlandersBasketball.com/tickets
