We've lived in 12 places, and have never seen the level of willful littering that exists in Cape Breton. Generally speaking CBers do not have enough pride in their island, community or themselves. There are exceptions like Cheticamp, but CBRM and North Sydney in particular, are the worst i've ever seen. You could pick up more litter in 50' on King St, than you could walking PEI from end to end. And the US might be deranged in their electorate, and dysfuntional in their government, but they do not litter, or mess in their own back yard.

Agree 100% and our main thing here is tourism.Go figure.Gotta start somewhere and I suggest school officials together with the cops get a little serious about an education program for the kids.I live by a school and its absolutely shocking how non nonchalant many kids are about throwing their wrappers, cans and bottles down wherever they are without one thought that it just may be the wrong thing to do.Parents have a role in this too but likely some of them are just as bad.

Back when Rotary used to pick up King St and area twice a year (and then gave up!), the most common items were Tim Horton's products. And those weren't coming from the kids! IMO, the parents are worse, and not providing any direction in this regard. When you see the 2 lookoffs on Kelly's Mtn, and the illegal dumping around CBRM, it's not kids. I agree that the kids that i've talked with when caught littering were much more receptive, but their parents were generally just ignorant.
