Our class 3 Driver Training (Construction & Oilfield Driver (Class 3)) Program is a 6-week program combining instruction from our industry-experienced training team with hands-on-training in METI’s Class 3 vehicles.

The total cost of this Class 3 Driver Training Course is $5995.00 – this includes books and basic personal protective equipment.

METI’s Construction & Oilfield Driver (Class 3) program is an approved certification by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour & Advanced Education.

METI is a licensed Class 3 Driver Training School in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act.

Class 3 Driver Training Course Individual Course Descriptions

AIR BRAKES TRAINING

Air Brakes Training is intended to provide information on laws regulations and correct procedures required to drive a vehicle equipped with an Air Brake System as used on trucks, tractors, and buses.  It is mandatory for the driver of an air-brake equipped vehicle to have an air brake endorsement on their license.

CLASS 3 DRIVER TRAINING

Upon completion of Class 3 Driver Training, you will demonstrate an understanding of the requirements of a Class 3 driver, including regulations, safe driving practices, vehicle performance and inspections and responsibilities.

CONSTRUCTION SAFETY TRAINING SYSTEMS (CSTS)

Construction Safety Training Systems is a general construction safety awareness program for workers in the construction industry.   This course gives a general overview of various health and safety topics and is a pre-entry requirement for many construction industry work sites. 

FLAG PERSON (ALBERTA) TRAINING

This course is designed for individuals who are involved in day-to-day operations where workers and the general public are exposed to traffic hazards created by vehicles and/or equipment. Safety precautions must be implemented for the protection of personnel who come into contact with the construction zone. Flag Person (Alberta) Training provides information about standardized flagger procedures in the construction industry in Alberta.

CARGO SECUREMENT TRAINING

Security of loads on vehicles is a matter of public safety and is, therefore subject to government regulations.  After completing Cargo Securement Training, you will understand the loading and securing of specific types of commodities and inspecting of secured loads for compliance with the North American Cargo (NSC) Securement Standard. By following the NSC Securement Standard, you, as a Class 3 Driver, will be in full compliance with Provincial, Federal, and the United States’ regulations.

FORKLIFT OPERATOR SAFETY TRAINING

Forklift Operator Safety Training will provide the knowledge required for the safe operation of “lift trucks” in compliance with provincial and federal regulations. During the hands-on portion of the training, you will have the opportunity to drive a forklift and must demonstrate the knowledge and the understanding of the inherent dangers while operating a forklift.

 

GROUND DISTURBANCE LEVEL 201 SUPERVISORY TRAINING

Ground Disturbance Level 201 Supervisory Training is a comprehensive guide to Ground Disturbance and meets the requirements for Level 201 (Supervisor Level). It is designed for anyone who may be required to undertake a ground disturbance or work in proximity to a ground disturbance in Canada.  Students will have the knowledge required to develop, plan and implement any kind of ground disturbance in a safe and effective manner.

H2S ALIVE TRAINING (Enform)

H2S Alive Training (Enform) is intended for all workers in the petroleum industry who could be exposed to hydrogen sulphide (H2S). The primary focus is to provide generic H2S course content to help workers work safely in and around H2S environments. H2S Alive Training (Enform) covers the physical properties and health hazards of H2S, how to protect oneself and basic rescue techniques. Each student is required to operate a self-contained breathing apparatus and a detector tube device, and to perform rescue lift and drag exercises.

HAZARD ASSESSMENT TRAINING

Hazard Assessment Training provides you with a background for assessing, identifying and controlling hazards in the workplace. You will gain an understanding of the meaning of Due Diligence and the necessary procedures to assess a work area for hazards.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY ACT, OH&S (NS) TRAINING

OH&S (NS) Training provides a thorough introduction of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Trainees learn about the standards that should be adhered to and the issues in creating a safe and healthy work environment.

OILFIELD SWAMPER TRAINING

Upon completion of Oilfield Swamper Training, you will have a working knowledge of the role of a swamper in the oil and gas industry.  The aim of Oilfield Swamper Training is to provide you with an understanding of the role of a swamper on bed trucks, picker (boom) trucks, and vacuum trucks.

OIL SANDS REGIONAL ORIENTATION (OSSA)

Upon completion of the OSSA Regional Orientation Program, a worker will be able to present their credential to any of the Oil Sands Safety Association Member Company sites (Shell Albian Sands Energy Inc., Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., Suncor Energy Inc., and Syncrude Canada Ltd.) as proof of completing the required site access orientation.

OSSA CONFINED SPACE ENTRY & MONITOR TRAINING

OSSA Confined Space Entry will give you an introduction to the hazards associated with entering confined spaces and to ensure that you demonstrate a basic understanding of the methods of controlling these risks.

Our Construction & Oilfield Driver – Class 3 Driver Training Course gives you the opportunity to operate both 13- speed and 18-speed trucks; training which better prepares you for the workforce.

OSSA FALL PROTECTION TRAINING

The purpose of this course is to introduce the basic principles of fall prevention and protection, as well as types of fall protection systems available and the most appropriate use for each of them.  The program also covers the requirements to comply with the current Alberta Occupational Health and Safety standards in fall protection.

POWER LINE HAZARDS TRAINING

Upon completion of power Line Hazards Training, you will have knowledge of the hazards associated with working near power lines.  In addition, you will be aware of the relevant provincial regulations and types of controls that can be utilized to prevent injuries and property damage.

PROFESSIONAL DRIVER IMPROVEMENT COURSE (PDIC) TRAINING

The Canada Safety Council’s Professional Driver Improvement Course (PDIC) Training is an established program that meets the needs of today’s complex traffic environment. PDIC Training helps professional drivers improve their defensive driving techniques. Upon completion of PDIC Training, you will have a better understanding of how to prevent collisions, deliver cargo safely and on time, reduce costs and maintain good driving habits.

STANDARD FIRST AID TRAINING, Level C with CPR and AED

This course is designed to meet industry, business and government requirements. Standard level first aid is a modular course for those who want to learn more first aid skills. This is a two-day course that includes CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automated external defibrillator) training.

TRANSPORTATION OF DANGEROUS GOODS (TDG) TRAINING

TDG Training is of benefit to all individuals who are involved in the handling and transporting of dangerous goods and provides training on the proper procedures for the shipping of dangerous goods. Topics covered include Regulations and Procedures, Classification, Labels and Markings, Documentation, and Procedures for reporting leaks or accidents.

VACUUM TRUCK OPERATIONS TRAINING

This course was developed with industry to give students the skills employers look for, along with a working knowledge of the safe and efficient operation of a vacuum truck.

WHMIS GHS TRAINING (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System -Globally Harmonized System )

WHMIS GHS provides information on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).  Topics include chemical properties and hazards, classifying controlled products, supplier label, workplace label and MSDS, SDS (material safety data sheets and Safety Data Sheets).

 
Our Class 3 Driver Training Course includes training on a modern, industry standard highway tractor, like our 2012 Freightliner Cascadia.

  • A completed Nova Scotia Class 3 Driver’s Medical that is current within the last 3 months
  • Proof of your education to date
  • A valid Class 5 license level with “N” removed if on graduated licensing
